Taking Junebug Home to Hawaii

August 17th my daughter and I flew to Honolulu with my mom’s ashes. Mom passed away 17 years ago and has been living in a ginger jar on top of the china hutch in my home. She had wanted to go in the casket of the first of her five children to pass, but only one has and my brother was cremated. His ashes went partly off of Waikiki where he used to surf, and partly to San Francisco.

My dad’s ashes are out there as well – he was a beach boy/surfing instructor for 15 years back in the 70’s and 80’s – and he brought my grandmother’s and great grandmother’s ashes over at that time. It was only right that we finally take her home to be with my dad and brother. Some of her will also go to San Francisco where she grew up.

Bittersweet -happy, sad – and a regrounding from getting her settled and moving on from other unexpected life changes.

Cathartic – that’s the word.
